Measuring tape brooches

In the six months before we moved to Grahamstown, I home schooled our youngest son, Jonathan. The language of tuition in his new school is English. I found a lovely homeschool program, Clonard, here in South Africa as we had to tailor made the program to cover Gr 1-3 in 6 months in English. In the study material also arrived a lovely black & white tape measure. In the week before the movers come to pack up the household content, I realised that I had to make something special with something out of the study material - it was fun for Jonathan and me but it was also a huge learning curve for both of us!

I read in a magazine, Molly Makes, which is a UK publication that there was a lady who had a shop in England, selling all this wonderful handmade jewellery. In the article it is mentioned that she also made brooches with tape measures ...... but there was no picture!

I thought that was a lovely idea since I do like to wear brooches a lot and this meant that I could make one as a lasting memory about the wonderful time that I had with my son for 6 months during our home schooling time.

I have been looking at the internet ever since then to see what she made, but it is amazing....in this time of all things internet, I have not been able to get to see her jewellery. Needless to say, the magazine went missing in the move (all or most of the magazines went missing), so I hav no reference point anymore!

If it is the same as hers', then he saying of 'great minds think alike' would be very true in this case!

Crochet waterbottle bag

I used the same twine/yarn that the coasters are made of to crochet this waterbottle bag. I think that you can never hav enough waterbottle bags. I made this up as I went along, so maybe it is not technically correct, I think it turned out very well! It is a lovely 'yarn' to work with, but it is basically the string that you used tie your parcel up at the Post Office long ago - in olden days 😄!

Girls knitted beanie

This is a lovely pattern for a girls' beanie, made in moss stitch. I knitted it in this beautiful pink colour which will suit all young girls that love pink. The embellishments on the side are knitted 'roses' in the multi colour yarn, so......every rose will turn out different since the yarn colour changed often.

Knitted baby jacket, beanie and booties

I like the multi-colour of this yarn and knitted it into a new born set of jacket with beanie and booties. The jacket is knitted in stocking stitch (all rows knit). The booties is a combination of knit and purl, but the beanie is in moss stitch which gives a nice texture and modern feel - this set can be used for baby girls and boys, due to the multi colour!

Fingerless Gloves

Here they are shown with my label.
Examples of fingerless gloves made by me from a pattern I created. The gloves do come in small, medium ans large.

Use the all the yarn!

The crochet necklaces do not use the entire ball of yarn, it is just too little! So.......I decided to make these crochet bangles with wooden beads. They are lovely and since it is 100% cotton, it wears very well and is soft on your skin! Its not too hot for summer.

Beanies

I hav been making the beanies mainly to sell at the shop, Kisma, owned and run by Tracey. The isea is that all things in the shop are hand made and/or recycled handmade in and around Grahamstown, EC.
Before moving here, I had the same idea and ao I was very pleased that we had the same sort of idea. Her shop is just so full of ceative things and I am pleased that I can be part of it.

Crochet flower necklaces

This is the best to show the necklaces

Bodyhugging silktie bag with cellphone pouch

I found this wonderful charater tie with detail called the 'little tasmanian devil'  -  these ties were very popular a few years ago, together with the start of the "Looney Tunes" characters, eg, Donald Duck, etc.

The ties are handsewn into place to create the actual space for your mobile phone, with a small pouch for credit card and/or business cards. It slings close to your body which means that you can use your headphones comfotable. The best is that your phone can not go missing.....

Twine products

I made the 100% twine placemats some time ago for myself. The twine gives a rustic feel but because it is a smooth 'yarn' it does give a more sofisticated texture and look.

I have also made the coaster now to compliment the placemats - it is not identical which also looks better. Matching everything does not always work!
